Dr Norman Mills co- founder of the Association of Dental Implantology ran a very successful practice in Wimpole Street for 30 years.
He was a successful dentist an employer who was able to keep his nurses for more than 15 years.
He says:
“Everybody is afraid of going to the dentist. Patients are afraid of their dentist and the dental nurse is the one person that stands between them.
When the dentist is not in the room or occupied she should increase the patients confidence in the dentist, reassuring patients that he is a great dentist and boss. She should say how gentle and pleasant he is. Patients trust what the nurses say to them as long as the nurse is honest and caring.”
“It is important that the dentist and nurse have a good relationship because the patient will rely on this and will be convinced by a happy nurse. If the nurse is stressed this will affect the mood in the surgery and increase the patients anxiety.”
“The dental nurse is at the fore front of the practice and is crucial to the success of a practice.”
Dr Mills believes the most important role of the dental nurse is the ‘psychology role’.
He believes it is imperative the dentists understand this and that they treat theirnurses with appreciation.
A happy nurse= A happy patient!
