Is it me or does it seem like everyone is busy these days? Either way, modern day technology has taken this into consideration and allowed us to easily perform a multitude of everyday tasks online, such as book restaurants and holidays, pay bills… you can even book a dentist’s appointment online these days!
With this being said, it’s no wonder why e-learning (electronic learning) is gaining momentum to become the first choice training and education solution for many. Available through e-videos, e-journals, audio and webinars, e-learning allows you to develop your professional and/or personal skills in your own time, without the need to take (sometimes unpaid) leave to attend a workshop. You can even learn from the comfort of your own home.
Assisting you to learn at your own pace and practise techniques and skills, e-learning gives you the opportunity to stop, pause and replay e-videos as many times as you require. Repeatedly watching or reading e-learning aids instils the confidence you need to practise your newfound skills with your team and/or patients.
Although it is independent learning, some e-learning courses require your interaction, and provide additional worksheets and questionnaires to give you a comprehensive learning experience that engages all your senses to demonstrate how much of the content you’ve understood. This is an approach I use in the world’s first treatment coordination e-learning programme, which includes the very best information, tips and advice on the TCO role.
Of course, e-learning won’t be suitable for everyone and practical training, especially, is still a vital part of any dental training, but I certainly believe it’s here to stay!
