cpd clockThere is now just under 3 months left for dental professionals to complete their CPD hours. On the 31st July this year, 40, 000 DCPs need to have renewed their CPD as it will be the end of their first five year cycle issued by the GDC. 150 hours of CPD must be completed, 50 hours Verifiable and 100 hours Non-Verifiable.

The GDC maintains that this a legal requirement. GDC registrants have until the 28th August 2013 to declare records of the CPD hours they have accomplished and completed. If registrants fail to complete the regulated hours or do not declare their hours, individuals risk loosing their GDC registration.

CPD is important as its intention is to ensure dental care professionals provide the highest level of quality care to patients. CPD takes into account the needs of the patients and registrants need to consider how this is relevant to their line of work and practice. CPD involves studying, training, courses, seminars, reading, quizzes and other activities. These methods advance individuals in their professional development.
Recording and Submitting your CPD!

To record and submit your CPD you need to keep up-to-date details of the CPD you have completed. The GDC may request proof or copies of Verifiable CPD Certificates so registrants must make sure these are attainable and available. CPD records must be kept for a minimum of 5 years of both Non- Verifiable and Verifiable CPD. Some registrants might be selected for assessment and audit. GDC provide CPD recording forms on their website.
